The Pumpkin Soup Story.
One day, Nathan wanted some pumpkin soup. So he asked his Grandad if they could get a pumpkin. Instead his Grandad said “Why don’t we just grow our own?”.
First off Grandad started by turning the soil to plant the seeds. When Grandad dug the holes Nathan planted the seeds and put some soil on top of them so that the pumpkins could grow. After they planted the seeds they waited for a long period of time. After a few weeks the pumpkin plants flowered and then they left it to grow for 3 months, and every time they looked at the pumpkins they grew bigger and bigger each time.
After they had finished growing Nathan took the pumpkin out of the soil and took it into the kitchen. They gave it a nice rinse so that it could be clean to start cooking with, because there was some soil still stuck on it. Then they got their cooking supplies ready. Nathan grabbed the pumpkin and gave it to Grandad to cut it into pieces. Before he cut the pumpkin Nathan said “Safety first Grandad” so Grandad put some gloves on and cut his first piece. He made sure that his fingers weren't too close to the knife when he was cutting it. Nathan thought Grandad was struggling so he asked Grandad if he was alright, but he gave no answer. Nathan was pretty sure that Grandad was having trouble, he had sweat running down his face in little droplets of water, arms and fingers shaking as he cut his first piece. Luckily he was fine, he said to Nathan “Sorry Nathan I did hear you but I couldn't answer you because I would lose my focus, but now I’m not worried any more” so he just carried on cutting pieces until there was no more pumpkin left to cut.
Once Grandad finished cutting the pumpkin he grabbed a pot, put the pumpkin in, turned on the stove and started adding some tasty ingredients to go with it, so that it wouldn't just taste like pumpkin it would taste like pumpkin and flavouring. Grandad kept on stirring it until it looked like it was ready. Nathan was really hungry and excited because he has been waiting for a long time to eat his homemade pumpkin soup.
Once Grandad finished cooking the pumpkin soup he took it off the stove, and slowly poured it in 2 bowls. Grandad took the bowls to the table, and Nathan could smell how good the soup was. He grabbed a spoon and ate it. The soup was delicious and he said “ Yummy soup, Grandad.”. Grandad enjoyed it as well, he thought it was very tasty and delicious.
Here is my Pumpkin Story, Miss Kirkpatrick showed her writing group a Pumpkin Story but we had to write it in our own words. This activity was really fun because we get to add our own interesting words, and it's kind of like an narrative.
